The origins of the Hotel Seehof, as described in the book „From Pit Edge to Beach“
(by Herbert Ehme, former mayor of the town of Zwenkau)

Our hotel – hard to believe – has been welcoming guests in Zwenkau since April 25, 1997. Back then, it was called the „Come Inn“ and was considerably smaller. One day in the summer of 1996, a gentleman from Franconia appeared at the Zwenkau mayor’s office. He was looking for accommodation for 12 to 13 engineers from his company for a period of about five years. He explained that his architectural firm had been commissioned to supervise the construction of the new power plant in Lippendorf, and that this would take approximately that long.

There was a brief pause. The then-mayor, Herbert Ehme, racked his brains but couldn’t find a solution quickly. Without waiting for an answer, the man from Franconia said in a somewhat uncertain voice – perhaps even surprised by his own idea: „If it could be done quickly and a suitable building site was available, I would build a small guesthouse myself.“

The mayor was speechless. Suddenly, a completely new situation arose, but both parties quickly came to terms with it. A year later, the hotel opened its doors and has been welcoming guests ever since.
